lacy underalls (she/her)
How did you come up with your name and number?
It was a nickname in high school stemming from the movie, Caddy Shack.
When did you start playing roller derby/get involved with roller derby? How did you get involved?
I first showed up to a practice in Fall 2006. I tagged along with a current skater at that time, Bessie Smithereens, who I met in grad school. From there I was hooked and went to the first tryout available a few months later. I was on the team that placed fourth at the 2014 Division II Playoffs and hung up my skates for a while after that season. I returned in September 2022 and have enjoyed every minute of it since!
Do you have any short term or long term Derby Goals?
Stay healthy and have fun.
What position on the track do you play/prefer?
Blocker.
What do you like to do after a game?
I usually go straight home to shower and go to bed. Derby at 39 feels very different than when I started at 22.
Favorite derby memory?
There are too many to choose from, but beating Tuscon in the final few jams in our first game of the 2014 Division II Playoffs was definitely a proud moment.
Do you have any specific pre-bout rituals or prepping you do?
I try to take a nap at some stage.
What does your life look like outside of roller derby?
I’m a divorce attorney and I have two kids under six; both of which keep me busy.
What is some advice you’d give to someone who may be interested in joining roller derby?
Consistency is the key to improvement. Don’t compare yourself to others. Falling is part of the learning process.
