Gender Bender (he/they) 22 Big Easy Roller Derby

How did you come up with your name and number?
I came up with my name watching the robots movie with Robin Williams’ character fender fighting the bad guys dancing to hit me baby one more time and thought gender bender was perfect. I picked the number 22 because of Elliot pages character from Whip It, his number was 22.

When did you start playing or getting involved in roller derby? How/why did you decide to start?
My dad started Reffing when I was like 5 or 6 and I always knew I’d want to play. I started playing when I was 14 with junior derby and joined Big Easy when I turned 18.

Do you have any short term or long term derby goals??
I definitely want to work on my track awareness and getting stronger so I can be a better blocker.

What position on the track do you prefer?
I start blocking on the inside but end up blocking wherever after haha

Favorite derby memory?
I think the game on April 9th was my favorite, I loved getting to actually play a game with my teammates

What does your life look like outside of roller derby?
I’m usually at school studying earth and environmental science or at home with my roommates watching criminal minds together.

Do you have any specific pre-bout rituals or prepping you do?
Not really, I wear my good bra and try to hydrate and eat lots of carbs

What is the one song you blast on game day to get you PUMPED?
Overture or obituary – Korn haha

What do you like to do after a game?
EAT

What is some advice you’d give to someone who may be interested in joining roller derby?
Do it! It’s way more fun to live life trying stuff and you never have to keep doing something if you hate it.
