How did you come up with your name and number?
I wanted a STEM-based name, but I couldn’t make a good pun out of any math terms.
404 is the HTTP error code for Page Not Found, which most of us are familiar with, and 418 is the lesser-known error code for “I’m a teapot”
When did you start playing or getting involved in roller derby? How/why did you decide to start?
November 2023. All of the coolest people I’ve met have been involved in derby, so when I moved to New Orleans and found out there was a team doing intakes I signed up immediately. Now that I’m involved with the league I can confidently say that there are, in fact, a bunch of cool people here.
Do you have any short term or long term derby goals??
As cheesy as it sounds, just to consistently improve. I started out skateboarding and got caught up in being too nervous to really get good at a lot of the tricks, especially after some previous ankle injuries. Derby has really shaken out a lot of that fear and every time I strap on skates my goal is to be just a little more bold than I was the day before.
Do you have any specific pre-bout rituals or prepping you do?
Brush your teeth. Floss too. It’s good luck.
What is some advice you’d give to someone who may be interested in joining roller derby?
Do it! If it winds up not being for you then you can always tag back out, but don’t let being nervous stop you from trying in the first place. When we say that the intakes require no skating experience we mean it. I started out shaky like a newborn deer and falling when standing still. The important part is your willingness to keep getting back up.
